CONFLUX is an independently selected exhibition that showcased the most exciting Postgraduate artwork produced across the University of the Arts London (UAL). Representation, observation, and surveillance are all problematic pursuits in today’s ‘simulacrum’ society. Seventeen artist-cartographers translate and transcribe their subjective perspectives on the ‘lay of the land’ by tapping into sources of glitched, recycled, and filtered materials. CONFLUX knits together distinct patterns of representation, forming a patchwork of decomposed strands of data.
From an open-call application process, available to all Postgraduate students across UAL, a distinguished panel - including Paul Goodwin (UAL Chair of Black Art and Design); Marie Lund (artist, Laura Bartlett Gallery); Sandra Pusterhofer (Independent Curator); Yasmina Reggad (Independent Curator); and Alec Steadman (Curator, Arts Catalyst, London) - have selected the final participants in a show conceptualized by six curators from Goldsmiths College, University of London - a cross-institution collaboration.
